Argentina's one and only 100 point wine

The prestigious English critic Tim Atkin has just announced that Finca Piedra Infinita Supercal 2021 was the only wine to reach 100 points in his annual Argentina Special Report 2024.

This wine comes from a specific 0.93-hectare parcel located on the west side of Finca Piedra Infinita. It showcases the most extreme facet of Paraje Altamira's soil, characterized by the presence of large deposits of stones covered with an extraordinarily rich layer of calcareous material.

In his 2024 Argentina Special Report, Atkin highlights the Finca Piedra Infinita Supercal 2021 as "a world-class Malbec" characterized by its texture, firm tannins, and delightful freshness. "Entirely unwooded, it has aromas of jarilla and sweet spices and a palate of thrilling minerality, [with] a finish that lingers like a happy memory on the palate."

After his visit to Zuccardi Valle de Uco this March, Tim Atkin commented: "Of all winemakers in Argentina, Sebastián Zuccardi is arguably the person who has done the most to champion the Uco Valley’s different terroirs, seeking to express them as faithfully as possible in the bottle." Sebastián Zuccardi, Winemaking Director of Zuccardi Valle de Uco winery, has a clear conviction: the wines must reflect the place, understood as the combination of landscape, climate, soil, topography, history, culture, vintage, and people. "As producers, we seek transparency," he says. In his opinion, "The key is to have a great place. Then, we need to know it deeply to be able to interpret it. Third, we need a precise execution in the winery."

In Sebastián's words, "When making this wine, I like to think that it comes from a said place – 'lieu dit.' Those of us who work daily in this vineyard know that it has special places, with truly unique characteristics." Regarding the 2021 harvest, Sebastián remembers it as "wonderful from an oenological perspective, characterized by the arrival of the grapes with great freshness and vibrancy, typical of a cool, humid, and sunny vintage. Thanks to these conditions, we achieved wines with identity, capable of showing with great transparency our interpretation of the year and the place from which they come."
