San Pablo, recognized among Argentina’s Great Wines

  • Post published:

Some places need time to reveal all they have to say.

San Pablo is one of them.

More than a decade ago, we began working in this corner of the Uco Valley, seeking to understand what makes it different: its elevation, its extreme cool climate, its proximity to the Andes Mountains, and its calcareous soils. Above all, however, we wanted to discover what this landscape could express through its wines.

We are delighted to share a recognition that we see as part of that journey: Zuccardi Aluvional San Pablo 2023 ranked No. 2 in James Suckling’s Top 100 Argentina 2026, establishing itself among the country’s most outstanding wines with 98 points.

The wine comes from Finca Las Cuchillas, at 1,400 meters above sea level in San Pablo, Tunuyán. This is only the third vintage of Aluvional San Pablo, a wine born from our curiosity to understand this place ever more deeply and from our conviction that Malbec can express the identity of a landscape in many different ways.

In his review, James Suckling Senior Editor Zekun Shuai describes:

“The wine offers a deep, silky core of black fruit, fine tannins, precise texture and impeccable purity.”

He also speaks of the place behind the bottle: a cool, high-altitude, more humid terroir that faces extreme frosts, where the soils combine sandy-loam materials with calcareous gravel.

A Story That Is Just Beginning

As Sebastián Zuccardi says:

“From our earliest work in San Pablo, we understood that this was a different region. Each year reveals new facets and confirms that it has a unique identity within the Uco Valley.”

That discovery is part of what excites us most about working with mountain landscapes. It is never simply a matter of reaching a conclusion. Each vintage brings new questions, new observations and new ways of understanding a place.

The recognition of Aluvional San Pablo is especially meaningful to us because it draws attention to the place behind the wine. In recent years, international critics have increasingly turned their attention to the diversity of the Uco Valley’s parajes and vineyard parcels, and to each one’s ability to give rise to distinct expressions of Malbec.

San Pablo is part of that story, which is still being written.

Four Wines, Many Places

We are delighted that four Zuccardi Valle de Uco wines were included among Argentina’s Top 100 in James Suckling’s selection:

Zuccardi Aluvional San Pablo 2023 — No. 2 | 98 points
Finca Piedra Infinita Gravascal 2023 — No. 15 | 100 points
Emma Zuccardi Bonarda 2024 — No. 38 | 96 points
Finca Los Membrillos Semillon 2022 — No. 51 | 97 points

These wines come from different places, vineyard parcels and landscapes across the Uco Valley. And perhaps that is what we appreciate most about this selection: together, they speak of a diverse valley, where each place has something different to say.

For us, every recognition is an opportunity to turn our attention back to the landscape that made it possible.

And San Pablo still has much to reveal.

We will continue listening to it, vintage after vintage.
